Summorum Pontificum

In the Liturgical news at the moment is the recent Motu Proprio 'Summorum Pontificum' issued by the Holy Father, establishing new norms and regulations for the celebration of the Roman Liturgy according to the 1962 Missal of Pope John XXIII. The text of the Motu Proprio is available here. It will also be in English as soon as an authorised translation becomes available.

The Diocese is currently considering how to implement the new regulations in Salford, and further information will be available in time on how this forma extraordinaria of the Latin Rite will be celebrated here.

The Motu Proprio itself, and the accompanying letter to bishops, emphasise that the celebration of the Liturgy according to the Missal of Paul VI (our current and familiar liturgical practice) remains the forma ordinaria of the Liturgy, and calls us all, bishops, priests and faithful, to continue to deepen our formation, participation and celebration of the Liturgy.
